Official price change announcements from the DMRE and commentary from the Automobile Association of South Africa.
The Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources announces the adjustment of fuel prices based on current local and international factors with effect from the 1st of April 2026.
1. Crude Oil Prices: The average Brent Crude oil price increased from $69.08 to $93.67 per barrel due to continued US-Iran tensions affecting crude oil supply through the Strait of Hormuz.
2. International Petroleum Product Prices: International product prices followed the crude oil price increase, contributing R5.26/L (petrol), R9.49/L (diesel) and R10.80/L (IP) to the Basic Fuel Prices.
3. Rand/USD Exchange Rate: The Rand depreciated from R16.00 to R16.64 per USD, adding 56.18c/L (petrol), 78.07c/L (diesel) and 83.21c/L (IP) to the Basic Fuel Prices.
4. Fuel Levy & RAF Levy: Fuel Levy increased by 9c/L (petrol) and 8c/L (diesel) to 429c/L and 416c/L respectively. RAF Levy increased by 7c/L to 225c/L. Carbon Levy increased by 5c/L (petrol) and 6c/L (diesel).
5. Short-term Relief Measure: A temporary reduction of R3.00/L in the general fuel levy announced by the Minister of Finance will apply from 1 April to 5 May 2026. During this period, the fuel levy will be 129c/L (petrol) and 116c/L (diesel).
